Tucked alongside a working watermill with over a thousand years of milling history, this Hertfordshire bakery offers something genuinely rare: the chance to learn bread-making in a setting where the flour beneath your hands may well have been milled just yards away. Classes are led by Master Baker Steven, who takes small groups of up to six through a full day of hands-on baking, covering both yeasted breads and sourdough techniques in a single immersive session.

The intimate group size means plenty of individual attention, and the pace is unhurried enough for students to really get to grips with shaping, proving, and understanding how dough behaves. Everything baked during the day goes home with you, so you leave with a proper haul of freshly made loaves rather than just a notebook of good intentions.

Lunch and refreshments are included throughout the day, making it a genuinely sociable experience as well as a practical one. There's also a thoughtfully assembled take-home pack containing recipes and a sample of Redbournbury Mill's own stone-ground flour, so the learning continues long after the day ends.

Classes run on Mondays, and gift vouchers are available, making this a particularly appealing present for anyone with a serious interest in real bread. The connection to a living, working mill adds a layer of context you simply won't find at a high-street cookery school.
